Supporting the Mission at Fairchild AFB: Groundbreaking New Facility Takes Flight

Earlier this spring, the team at Bernardo Wills joined project partners and military leadership to celebrate the groundbreaking of the new Flight Base Operations Facility at Fairchild Air Force Base. While the ceremony marked the start of construction, it also symbolized a shared commitment to excellence, readiness, and the Spokane community’s deep connection to the military mission.

Fairchild AFB plays a vital role in our nation’s defense. As home to the 92nd Air Refueling Wing, its aircraft and aircrews provide critical air mobility support across the globe. The new Flight Base Operations Facility will serve as a centralized hub for flight planning, command coordination, and briefing/debriefing activities—helping streamline and strengthen day-to-day operations for the base’s KC-135 Stratotanker crews.

Bernardo Wills was proud to provide architectural design services for this project as part of the Garco Construction-led design-build team, in partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Our role included basic architectural design, documentation, and coordination to support the facility’s long-term functionality, performance, and mission alignment.

Designing for military and government clients requires a blend of precision, collaboration, and purpose-driven design—qualities that our team brings to every project. “Facilities like this aren’t just about buildings,” said [Optional: Principal/PM name], “They’re about creating space for people to perform at their best under high-stakes conditions.”

This groundbreaking also reflects our ongoing commitment to serving the Spokane region through thoughtful, context-driven design. As a local firm, projects like these allow us to give back to the institutions and people who call this place home—whether it’s a school, a city hall, or a base that keeps our skies secure.

We’re grateful to the team at Garco Construction, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and Fairchild AFB leadership for their partnership and trust. Congratulations to everyone involved on reaching this exciting milestone—we look forward to seeing this facility take flight.
